Artistic Statement:
What is my art about? It’s about raucous joy, quiet beauty and the humor which makes us HUMan. My work in both two and three dimensions is generally representational and often whimsical. I love nothing better than trying to discover new mediums and using “old “ artistic mediums in new ways. Although I have always painted ( cannot remember a time I didn’t), I’m 15 years new to sculpture as an expressive form.
Biography:
I’m a 5th-generation native Texan who studied design and art history at the University of Texas and participated in numerous art-related continuing education classes after college. I began decorative painting in my own home. This led to commissions for friends and clients who would see my murals and stenciled rooms. In 1995 I took my first class in sculpture at the Elisabet Ney Sculpture Conservatory in Austin, Texas. I fell in love with cement as a medium and taught the technique for 7 years.
I have been a professional artist since 1999. In May 2000 I moved to Lake Buchanan and opened my studio there. But I have family ties in Austin and continue to work with my mentor, sculptor Steve Dubov, at Atelier 3-D in Austin, Texas, on a regular basis. I create public and private art commissions in my lake studio. Teaching, serving on arts boards, and participating in art shows are ways I feel I can give back to the community a small part of the joy and fulfillment I find in creating my art.
